booth's gin

Welcome to my Booth's Gin web site. My name is Nella Booth - no relation to the gin family, but I guess it helps explain why I wanted to collect as much information about Booth's as possible. I hope to gather stories all relating to the Booth's Gin history. If you know any information that will help make this site even better, please send me an email - any information recieved from you will be attributed to you here.

I am a collector of all things Booth's Gin and will periodically put a photo or two up of the types of things I have collected. If you have any unwanted Booth's Gin items lying about, (posters, ashtrays, glasses, bottles etc...) please contact me

Booth's Gin is a famous brand of London dry gin, founded by the Booth family around 1740. All the distinctive bottles and merchandise have a reference to the Red Lion distillery where the drink was produced.

Felix Booth launched his gin in 1790 and the original recipe was used until production stopped around 2006. It is a domestic gin in the London Dry style (not sweet).

Did you know:

  • Gin is a spirit flavoured with juniper berries.
  • Distilled gin is made by redistilling white grain spirit which has been flavoured with juniper berries.
  • Compound gin is made by flavouring neutral grain spirit with juniper berries without redistilling and can be considered a flavoured vodka.
  • The most common style of gin, typically used for mixed drinks, is London dry gin
  • Booth’s is the Queen’s favourite tipple and each bottle carries her royal crest of appointment.
  • To be genuine Booth’s, each bottle carried the Red Lion and the Booth’s Distillers signature!
  • London dry gin is made by taking a neutral grain spirit (usually produced in a column still) and redistilling after the botanicals are added. In addition to juniper, it is usually made with a small amount of citrus botanicals like lemon and bitter orange peel. Other botanicals that may be used include aniseangelica root and seed, orris root, licorice root, cinnamoncoriander, and cassia bark.
